DANCE FOR ACTORS
Choreographing for TV and film is exciting, but the reality is that much of the work involves simple movement or short scenes with just a touch of dance. Early in my career, Harbour Dance gave me the opportunity to teach beginner adult classes, where I discovered a particular talent for working with actors who had little to no dance experience.
I quickly realized that stepping into a dance scene can be intimidating, and self-confidence is often low. With this in mind, I focus on patience, clear guidance, and easy-to-follow directions, helping each performer discover what works for them and building the confidence they need to shine on screen.
You’d probably laugh at my résumé if I told you the types of “moves” I’ve choreographed for movie and TV scenes. I’m trained in jazz, ballet, contemporary, tap, hip hop, and musical theatre—but to give you a sense of what I’m talking about, here’s a sampling of genres that have made me chuckle:
